Anti-doping UEFA

UEFA has intensified the fight against doping in football - and is working in accordance with the motto "one positive case is one case too many".
UEFA's anti-doping programme involves an increase in the number of doping controls in its competitions, greater financial outlay in the sector, the creation of an anti-doping unit within the UEFA administration, as well as an expert anti-doping panel, and an education programme aimed at the broad spectrum of the European football community.

Associations and clubs taking part in UEFA competitions are being asked to assist UEFA in implementing the anti-doping programme, while any player participating in a UEFA competition may be required not only to undergo a doping control after a match, but also to undergo out-of-competition controls. No advance information is given as to when controls will take place.

The Anti-Doping Panel is composed of two members of the Medical Committee, seven external experts and two observers (one appointed by the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) and the other by the European Division of the players' union FIFPro). The Anti-Doping Panel supports the UEFA Medical Committee in its work and, more specifically, proposes UEFA's anti-doping programme and policy to the Medical Committee.

Anti-doping activities are administered within UEFA by the Competitions division under director Giorgio Marchetti.
